I am 17 years old and I'm gay and some of my close friends know this and are completely comfortble with it but for me I hate saying it. I was just wondering if anyone around my age who lives around the new england area who is gay would talk to me about it.

The only way you become comfortable with it is over time. The hardest part is to accept yourself for who you are. The first person you tell is the hardest person to tell, and after that it gets easier each time.

Time. Thats all you need. Youre young. In time, this will all be as it should be, NORMAL in your own eyes. The thing is, theres a great deal that you OUGHT to be afraid of, and saying that youre gay is one of them. People, complete strangers, can follow you hme from the grocery store and cover your home with feces, o r abduct you, or attack you in public- why? Because PEOPLE can be ANIMALS, and when you let them know youre a different animal than them, they get hungry for your blood. But- BUT, in time, you will come to find yourself and learn how to handle people and situations like this, as all people do. Give yourself time. But in my own humble opinion, Id only tell people that Im gay that have a need to know and in a setting that is comfortable. Id also let them know how dangerous it is for a young person to be known as homosexual and to not make a big deal about it. Example being, my boyfriend at his job was 'used' by his boss to make an example in a conversation- without his permission when his boss in front of other people, turned to him and said "youre GAY, what do you think?". People need to understand the stigmas and prejudices that go with being gay and how authority can be undermined and respect lost by those who have no reason to know "who" you are. Its a very tricky line. Weher we all, as gays, can benefit by everyone realizing what numbers we truly make up in the world, and its FAR higher than just 10% of the populace, they will begin to realize us as NORMAL. But its dangerous, for reasons already mentioned. Its a very difficult life to live when people have religion on their side condemning you and making you accectable to hurt. After all, the word F'a'g comes from the bible, and it means something used for starting a fire and in some countries its used as slang for cigarettes, something you BURN and snuff out........so...be careful, but you'll learn in time HOW to be strong.

it's something that just takes time to get used to, really. my close friends didn't know it (at least, I didn't tell them at first, some figured it out) for a long time I realized I was (at 18). I didn't know anyone gay for a very long time after I realized I was...so it took me a little longer to get comfortable with being myself. I am now out to my family, friends and coworkers, and they all accept me for who I am. and I have a wonderful partner living with me and we are very happy.

maybe you feel uncomfortable that they are so accepting. did you think that they would be so cool about it? maybe you don't like the fact that you are 'gay' and that is how you are being identified.

Not your age, don't live in New England, so I guess my experience is worthless to you.
