Bobby Moore, a bit before my time, but the accolade this man get's of everyone is truly amazing.
I have seen footage of him, he was a great defender, always gave 100%, a great passer of the ball and a great understanding of the game.
Tony Adams, this was one amazing defender in my opinion, a great leader of men, a strong personality, a great centre half, great understanding of the game, a good passer of the ball, always had an yard over his opponent in the brain department, classy defender.
William Gallas, strong, quick, played with heart, verstile, could play right back, center back or even left back, scored goals, a proper man's defender, a legend even though he did go to Arsenal

According to Brian Clough - and he new a thing or two about football - that accolade goes to Roy McFarland. Clougie said he was Englands finest Centre Half for a generation by a mile.
As a Derby fan I saw McGrath a few time and although he was passed his best was still head and shoulders above the rest, a class act, so cannot disagree with some of the other posts on that one.
Stam was overrated, Adams good but not great......... we could debate this for hours, good question!!!!

Sorry, it is not wrong football. They played very well in a confued situation. As you can see all the payers are super as compared to others. It is aggregate problem and primarily the coach's problem. In my assumption the core four problems are: 1. The coach is wrong primarily. What is this new system without attacking force . In a battle you shouldn't win by using long range missals only. The mid fielders are like that. 2. The team doesn't have psychological adivisor, I guess. If they have, he should clarify the reason why the payers are shaking. 3. The young boy did a big mistake that he will compensate us in the future. 4. We the fun and journalists expected more, which has psychological impacts on the player Finally, forget and prepare for South Africa. By the way who will be the next coach?

Carragher isn't even the best of the current generation. The best is Stuart Pearce. Terry Butcher and Alan Hansen would be close second
