Why does Styx's Mr. Roboto recieves a bad reputation and I also heard that it was the song that ruined Styx's career and it caused them to breakup the following year, I mean it's not their best song but I've heard worse songs than that.

Mr Roboto was the stick that broke the proverbial camels back as far as Styx was concerned. It wasn't the song itself but it was more the way Dennis DeYoung had taken the band in a direction that had Tommy Shaw ready to explode as well as James the other Guitar player. As it unfolded when Tommy Shaw realized what he was going to have to do on stage every night as they toured that year The whole tour was one big mess and finally ended the Styx era as the "premier" arena band. Though they did briefly get back together with the original line up in the 90's it has been Dennis DeYoung that really stymied the chances of a real long reunion and now they never will have that reunion. To bad as I cut my guitar playing on their music and really loved that band!

I personally think that it was the song that destroyed Styx and the bandmates didn't want to go along with Dennis Deyoung's idea due to the alter ego problems he was having and I can see why they fell apart afterward, I don't think that Mr. Roboto is that great of a song and I liked Styx during the pre-Cornerstone era the best.

OK thats just wrong! Styx rocks! I have been a fan at a very early age, I went and saw Dennis De Young after Styx broke up and he said rock n roll was "good parental brainwashing". I heard they broke up because De Young suffered an illness which prevented him from performing to his full potential with the band so Mr. De Young just does his stuff and the Styx stuff he can sing solo or with his current band's accompaniment.
