well, being a "typical american" the good old days to me was when:

A. I was young enough not to work but old enough to drive
B. When my father was alive

me being older and married would consider the good old days as my late teens or early 20's. hanging with my friends, going to school, staying up all night just talking and watching movies or going to the drive in.

I believe every generation considers that the period of time when they were young, carefree, and the future open. Generally sometime between childhoold up through twenties. For me, it was upper elementary years.
