"to prepare"

Agreed. But to prepare for what? Why would somebody wear clothing that is designed for older people? Have clean cut hair styles? Avoid numerous piercings, tattoos, outlandish make-up? These things may make you think you are expressing your individuality but you essentially get dropped into a group and all look the same to the rest of us. Preps are preparing for real life where you need to be respected and respectable.
