that would be pretty sick to see though. A ref rifles it back 15 yards to another because there had a been a penalty and the offense if moving back (or forward 15 if it was on the D).

it way easier to throw an easily catchable spiral with more accuracy underhand. Also throwing overhand can put a lot of stress on a shoulder and underhand does not. I would guess it is mainly for accuracy though.

Because its easier to throw it underhand at short distances. They are not rifling it down the field.
