I am so glad that you asked this question!!! I agree with you totally. It is very wonderful to see a sport that does have an invocation!!!!! If there were more maybe our country wouldn't be in the mess it is now.
To the idiot that said driving fast and making left hand turns was stupid, I think he is jealous that tire changers or the gas man makes more in one year than he does in 5.

I think that it is great that they are not afraid to pray. I think the fact that they are still doing it shows that people really are not offnended by public prayers. I think that we should all send letters to NASCAR and thank them for keeping up this tradition, this way they know that we want it to continue.
I don't know if the person giving the invocation has to be Christian, or give a Chrisitian Prayer. I know that NASCAR has a little Ministry orginization, I was trying to find info on the NASCAR website, but I have been unable to find it. Maybe the reason the prayers are Chrisitian is because the majority of Americans are Christian, and a huge part of the NASCAR fan base maybe Christian. I don't know. That would be a question that you would have to pose to them. Please Remember that NASCAR is an American sport, and that America was founded on Christian principles, by Christian men. Saying a prayer, Christian or otherwise at a sporting event, does not force anyone to be Christian. If you don't like that your religion is not represented, then why don't you do something about it? Something like, Sign up to part of the NASCAR ministries group or something. That will do a lot more good then whining about it to all of us.

It isn't 'awesome' because it is probably a traditon from when NASCAR started.
Just like spraying champange (started by Dan Gurney in 1967) after the race by the winner (or those on the podium).
And the national athem of the winning driver (and constructor) being played while he is on the podium.
Or even the Tifosi going absolutly mad at the end of a race in Monza, especially if it's a Ferrari man on the top step of the podium.
It's all about traditons.

One of the reasons I love NASCAR so much!! Yes, our GOD is an awesome GOD!!!! Maybe that is why the drivers aren't greedy idiots like in other sports.

This is one of the reasons that I LOVE Nascar! Ignore the idiots up top. It's disrespectful to come on here and say bad things about a sport that everyone loves, but it's even worse to come on here and say horrible things about God! Come on now! Aren't most of adults on here?

To thank God for the ability to do a job that brings the people together is awsome.I may cut down several drivers but I don't wish any harm to them for God gave them the talent to do a job that we enjoy watching.
And as the prayer is said before the race it should be taken to heart that win, lose or draw we are there for enjoyment of a section of life.

I'm an avid NASCAR fan. It bothers me that you would believe that everyone in this country follows the Christian way. How do you know that the drivers and teams even like it that a Christian leader prays for them before every race. I wouldn't! Ever pay attention to how many of them don't bow their heads or close their eyes. Maybe they don't believe either. I think NASCAR should give other religions a chance to voice their concern for the drivers and the teams too. You don't have to be Christian to be a good person. WAKE UP! Your precious little Jesus isn't the only way to the promised land!
