I am also in the position of this possible tenant. Just because I'm careful about who I give out my identity info to, doesn't make me (or others) a deadbeat. How do we know our information isn't going to be sold, especially when renting a home straight from the owner and not a management company? If there's another way to perform the check without giving out this info, have the tenant do that instead, like printing up their own credit report.

It is perfectly legal to check the credit on a potential tenant. In fact, they must comply with this request (according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act) in order to be considered for a lease. They would have to provide the same information if they were applying for a bank loan, car loan or credit card. You will need their full name, address and social security number. You can sign up with simplescreening.con and run the credit check online.

Absolutely check credit and background on all prospective tenants. If they are hesitant to give out the informtion, likely they are hiding something, and move on to the next candidate.
In addition to the previous answers, of needing social security number, full name, DOB and address, you will also need their permission to do a check, in writing.

well the easiest way is their social security # but you obviously are having trouble with that so their full name and birthdate will work on credit checks too. Check once you have the report that previous addresses and birthdate match up.

don't rent to someone who is hesitant to give out "identifying" information.......You must have proof of ID, date of birth, social security number, etc. And you can't run a credit check on them w/out a signed release anyway. As an individual, you will fiind it cost prohibitive to run an actual credit report on someone.
Have them run their free credit report....printed in its entirety and have them pay the 15 bucks to obtain a FICO score....and it must be dated w/in 48 hrs of receipt.....this helps keep the deadbeats away.
My tenants provide me copies of all their ID.....believe me, you need when the try to screw you......social security number is really important.

well then she doesn't want the APT. that bad or has something to hide. move on to the next person I'm quit sure you got more then one person that wants your apt.
