After the obvious 3 month uncertainty period, what is the basic time when you know you won't lose your baby during pregnancy?

Safe is relative - a baby can be stillborn or die of complications even at full term. Generally though, there is a chance of survival starting at 22 weeks (some will say starting at 20 weeks but those odds are small). The baby would have to be hospitalized but with advanced medical treatments available today, can grow and thrive. With every week thereafter, the odds improve. Once the baby's lungs are developed, (around 37-38 weeks) the baby is full term and is likely to have a healthy birth.

I know I eagerly awaited the 22 week milestone with my pregnancy, but still, try to focus on the positive and trust in the unfolding of the miracle inside you (made easier through prayer if that is an option for you), rather than getting caught up in fear of a loss. Avoiding stress/fear is good for you and the baby too!

The usual thinking is that if the fetus survives the first three months, the chances of it being carried to term are much better. However a miscarriage can happen at just about any time in the pregnancy for various reasons.

there is no one time when there's no chance of losing the baby, but some times are less likely. even well into a pregnancy, there could be problems with the placenta detaching or not providing enough nutrients. the umbilical cord could get compressed, or tangled around the baby's neck, which cuts off oxygen to the baby. there is of course a time of viability, when the baby could live outside the womb. other than that, until the baby's born, there's no 100% chance of keeping the child alive, but it's less likely to be lost anyway.

I don't think that there is such a thing...at a certain point it goes from a miscarriage to losing the baby. All you can do is what you're supposed to do to be healthy and hope for the best. :) You never ever know what will happen or how.

Trust me...I had my girl at 35 weeks along...5 weeks early and it was pretty tramatic. So just prepare as best you can and hold on tight!!!

It can happen at any time, the first trimester is just an old wives tale, once I read about this lady who was 25 weeks pregnant and her baby died in the womb and they made her go through labor and everything, it was so sad to hear when she said, I gave birth to a dead baby, Oh Gosh I hated to hear that. Anyway after the first trimester your chances of having a miscarriage drop significantly but it can happen at ANY TIME.

I have had two friends who lost babies at 7 and 8 months pregnant. I have a son delivered by emergency cesear. at 24 weeks. There is no safe time and sometimes no explanation for why things happen the way they do.
