I'm not trying to incite Rutgers fans, I just need explained why the sudden jump?

Okay, so if Rutgers jumped over Arkansas because they beat a harder team, then why didn't Arkansas jump over Fla when they ALMOST lost to a Arkansas had just beat by a greater margin?

The reason for the huge leap (to #6 in the BCS standings) is because 4 top ten teams lost on Saturday... one of them, thanks to Rutgers' own efforts.

After RU beat Louisville on Thursday night, I envisioned them moving to maybe 10th or 11th (they'd been #15), but not much higher, unless some other top 10 teams lost...which they did...Texas, Auburn, Cal and #3 Louisville all lost....

The way the beat Louisville, coming back from a 25-7 deficit and completely shutting them out in the 2nd half (after giving up 56 points to them last season) impressed enough voters...RU ranked 7th or 8th in the writers and coaches polls this week, and moved up to 6th in the BCS rankings, announced this evening (Sunday).

But it's mostly because of the loses suffered by the other 3 top ten teams...had they all won, there probably wouldn't be room for Rutgers in the top 10...yet...

btw, fans of other teams can say whatever they want about who Rutgers plays, but the fact is that the conferences themselves came up with the BCS system... that means Florida had a hand in it, Auburn had a hand in it...all the teams in BCS conferences put this thing together... so those schools have no one but themselves to blame...

The Florida Gators' next game is against Western Carolina...big deal.

Ohio State played Bowling Green earlier. Michigan played Central Michigan, and barely got by Ball State.

Auburn played Washington State and Buffalo earlier this season.

LSU played Fresno State and Louisiana-Lafayette....

Nobody plays top teams every week...every team schedules some cupcake games, you don't hear me complaining about their schedules...

You play who you play.

Sportswriters and fans can talk all they want about a playoff system, but the BCS is what the colleges themselves decided on. So their complaints fall on deaf ears... Of course I know Rutgers isn't going to play for the national championship this year, but so what? What difference does it make in anyone's life if their team finishes the season ranked 5th instead of 4th?

Get a life, people! The college championship has never been decided on the field, it's always determined by sportswriters... the BCS has actually been pretty good at giving us #1 vs. #2 matchups lately in the championship game....they sure got it right last year, with USC and Texas...

Being undefeated within a BCS conference is a huge reason. Although the strength of their schedule is not the most impressive, but a win over 3 Louisville accounted for a huge jump in not only the polls but the computer rankings.

Couple that with 3, top 10 teams losing will also help.

The BCS is all about numbers, mainly: record, record of opponents. rank of opponents, strength of schedule, strength of opponents schedule ect. Rutgers is 9-0, beat a team that was 8-0 and ranked #3 got a bump in strength of schedule by playing that previously 8-0 team, and Louisville's strength of schedule had actually gone up by playing a previously 13 ranked team. It helped that 4 top 10 teams lost (Louisville, Texas, Auburn, and Call). Rutgers actually hopped over Arkansas because they had beat a better opponent. Noter Dame, Florida and USC all won and all stayed ahead of Rutgers.

It is completely fair. I'm not partial to either team, but if you look at the teams they've beat, Oklahoma is the clear winner. They played in the same conference and ended up in this crazy one loss triangle. So you have to look at their non-conference schedule. The only team with a winning record that Texas played out of conference is Rice. Oklahoma on the other hand beat #14 TCU pretty handily. Texas' only claim to a more difficult schedule is their game against Missouri, but Oklahoma will play them in a conference championship game so you really should want that game to happen. If OK wins their games against OK state and Missourri, I say they are undisputed champs, if they lose, then I think Texas should jump up to the national championship game because clearly the Big 12 and SEC were the best conferences this year. These teams need to learn to beef up their non-conference schedules!

Real football teams? They beat Louiville, who had the what? #2 or #3 ranked offense in all of college football? They are still undefeated, beat the #3 team in the BCS standings, and everyone else basically lost. Thats how they jumped.

Is it fair that they were UNDERRANKED? That's why the sudden jump, on top of that they just beat the team ranked third.

I guess mostly from the fact that they are undefeated for the season. the real test to see if they deserve to stay is when they play west virginia. congrats to them i say, but i'm holding reserve out on how good this team is due to schedule.
