When i put my car in reverse it shuts off what could be the problem

One of the frist things i look at for a rough running or stalling car is check for vaccumn leaks. Good ole wd40 sprayed on the connections will help you find a leak. If the rpm`s pick up , you have found a leak.No knowing what kind, year, make or model, i would look for the vaccumn modulator down on the transmission frist and check there for leaks.

Gezzzz, I can´t believe that suggestion of "try stepping on the gas". It is ok to joke, but let´s be more responsible here. You are setting the the asker for an accident.

It could be a transmission issue or simple as sensor ... add more information about your car here, make model, mileage since when its happening etc. i m sure someone will have answer for you.
