Liz Sonneborn gives a really good early history and it is a comfortable read. She even gives a picture of the authorizing charter document where England's king George II established it in 1732. The Smith book is also a good source, if you can find it. In Smith you will discover (p. 29) that one of the early exports of Georgia was slaves to the West Indies islands--Native Americans were bought and sold.
