First off this did not happen to me it happened to my friend today. Anyway my friend is in love with a total jerk! She bought tickets last thursday to see a famous play tonite. She bought the tickets for her and her boyfriend. This was so supposed to be a surprise for him. She got the perfect seats 3rd row floor seats. However when she told him about the tickets yesterday he totally blew her off and told her that he had plans to watch football at his friends house tonite. He also took the tickets and gave them away to his sister and her boyfriend. My friend called me today crying because she spent like 150.00 for the tickets and she bought a new outfit and got her hair done. How could he be such an a**.

he is an a** for his actions, and he shouldn't have taken the tickets if he wasn't going to use them, however, she bought them as a gift for him (at least 1 anyway). she shouldn't have shown him the tickets, she should return the dress unless she really likes it and can afford to keep it.
he'll never give her the money back for the tickets, he'll fume if she asks his relatives for the money so at this point, she bought an expensive lesson and shouldn't buy him anything else that costs more than a 30 cent pack of gum. until she realizes he's a jerk, he be around....unfortunately. just be a good friend to her..she'll eventually see his true colors. people usually can only do to us what we allow to happen. having said that, he'd be discarded like the trash he is.

he has already dumped her. It cost her some money but if this is how he treats her when they are single , just think of how bad it would be after he began to take her for granted if they got married. A couple hundred dollars is a cheap price to pay for this knowledge. SHe should have held onto the tickets and said, ok, if you dont want to go I will go alone or with a friend, then called the first guy she could.

As her friend, I would spend the evening with her eating chocolate ice cream and watching movies about strong women who survive without a man or a bunch of comedies that make you both laugh and forget the jerk. You can't make her decisions for her, she will have to decide for herself that she doesn't need this jerk in her life. Tell her what you think about him, but end your statement by saying you are there for her no matter what she decides.

Well, surprises are nice if the other person hasn't made plans, and if the surprise means as much to the receiver of the surprise as it does to the giver.
That being said, considering the cost of the tickets, he had no right to give them away. I would advise your friend to re-evaluate her boyfriend as someone she wants to spend her life with.
He sounds very self centered and controlling.

Because he doesn't care about her or doesn't like doing things she enjoys she needs to leave this prick and find someone that will her treat her with the respect she deserves and she should ask that he pay for the tickets that he gave to sister she paid for them that is only fair sorry but what an idiot. She sounds like a very nice, caring, and very generous lady she needs to find a guy
like herself and dump this sorry excuse for a boy.

Enjoy the new hair and clothes. Also raid his account for the money she spent on him and use it to buy something that's totally selfish. She deserves it. I'd encourage her to seek divorce. noone should have to live the rest of her life to a man that doesn't appreciate her.

You say this was to be a surprise for him? Maybe there is an error in communication because he didn't seem too excited about going. Maybe she bought them more for herself and he is just reacting normally.
