My best friend and I have been friends for about eight years. Lately (the last year or so) it feels like a barrier has grown between us. We're still really good friends, but some things it seems we just can't talk about. How can I fix this?

Thanks to my fellow Americans that kind of marriage isn't legal.

First of all, if you are friends for a very long period of time, don't you think it is natural there will be some things that can't talk about? Or maybe won't be able to for a long time? The more you really get to know someone, the more chances of conflict or just different viewpoints.
Have you tried to talk about that you can't talk on some subjects. Sometimes, just talking about the distance/barrier is a little less intimidating than any underneath issues.
A couple other real possibilities is that she has a huge or deeply personal problem that she just needs to work out herself and cannot share [yet] or she has something against you and feels unable to talk to you about it- like something you might be sensitive on. On the first one, it could something as bad as being abused or attacked, or a medical problem.
In any of these scenarios, the least you can do to reach out to her and show her your true feelings and friendship by telling her you would like to talk about this, if she has something she wants/needs to discuss you are open, and that you are there for her if not. It is okay to 'agree to disagree' on certain things too, though it is better to know what those areas are.
I sincerely hope you are able to reach her heart, that will mean more to her in the end than anything. You are a good friend to be concerned about your friendship and seek answers.

You could about it with your friend and see how he/she feels!!! Your friends so you should be able to talk about something that is on your mind, work it out!!! But always know that you will always be friends no matter what, that will help you get though anything that tries to come between the two of you!!!!! No matter what happens you guys you will always be there for one another, even if for some reason you start to loss touch, it is better to have them in your life even in the smallest amount then not at all!!! Work it out and talk about it!!!!

Talk about what is going on and see if your friend feels the same way. After that, change it. Start talking more, your friendship will grow.
