It is wireless communication secured by a handshake signal from the receiver and transmitter. Bluetooth is used in wireless headsets for cellphones.
It is used in other wireless devices as well. It won't be long until some of the game systems are using it for their controllers instead of radio or other signals.

Bluetooth is a program that you can use to transfer files. For example if you want a ringtone from your friends cell phone and you both have bluetooth you can use that to get a copy of your friends ringtone. Or if there is a photo on your cell phone you want to use for something like your myspace you can use bluetooth to transfer the photo from your cell phone to your computer.
