I do not usually like to talk about this topic. The more talk the more angry I get . Social security funds are put into the general tax funds and are spent as regular taxes. You can blame that on congressmen in Washington. If they would leave the SS funds alone there would be no problem. The same thing happened in Texas with the lottery. The money was supposed to be strictly for public schools. This was money that did not exist before until about 8 or 9 years ago.Texas was surprised by how much money was coming in with the lottery.Suddenly this year the schools are in very bad need of money.Kinky admitted this while running for Governor that lottery money was being used as general tax funds.

Social Security will not go away. It is the greatest birth right in this country. Too many elderly people who worked their entire lives in odd jobs with low pay it is their only defense against the sometimes cruel world of capitalism in old age. Something like 75% of seniors rely on SS as the biggest portion on their income or in extreme cases their only source of income for life-long, low- income seniors. Trust me SS taxes will go up and SS will be there. It is a scare tactic to get people to dump money in mutual fund companies that are in bed with many Democrats and Republicans. Do you know that the idea for 401ks and IRAs were pushed by mutual fund company lobbyist back in the late 70s.......I wonder why?

I certainly hope that you're mistaken in the use of the term "impending demise" because, yes. it concerns me very much.

That's what everyone in DC is trying to prevent if they can. If not the 60s baby boomers becouse of their large numbers are going to create strain on the system. Now why was this system not improved upon ten, twenty thirty years ago?

They should have let people do like Galveston Texas did years ago. Not only do they get their money, but they make more in retirement than they did while working!!
