I've used vinegar to get rid of cigarette smoke smells in rooms. You sit a bowl of it out and it literally absorbs the odor. It stinks itself, but once you throw it out that smell is gone really quickly.

I can only think of one way to use it on the couch, and that's in a carpet and upholstery cleaning machine using the upholstery attachments. Just put vinegar in it instead of cleaning solution. Once you do the vinegar, don't let it dry. Redo it with plain water several times to get all the vinegar out.

I had this problem when I bought a piece of furniture and asked a professional and was told to use 1/4 cup white vinegar with 1 gallon of water. wash it down good and it took the smell away it was amazing and you will see the difference in the water. Also here where I live there is the cleaner called orange cleaner gets out smoke it works great.

A professional is good, I used to be a professional lol!

Remember smoke takes out smoke. Being a couch it is way to big to put into a room all by itself, or is it? If you can shut the couch up all by itself with its cushions set off to the side in the same room then find a incense you like. Burn these incense, this may do it....
Littler items you can put in a small bathroom then apply this technique..... There is also a fogger that is used by professionals (I used to do this and would charge 40 bucks) get everything alive out of the house as well as all food that was not canned somewhere. Fog the house. This makes everything smell so good!
Good luck! This is a question that comes up quite a lot. Also animal smells out of items.....

You could try tea tree oil if you are able to sponge clean the furniture. It is a disinfectant and leaves a fresh smell. It would be worth a try anyway. There are professionals that clean furniture and clothing which has been in a fire that may be able to help. It may not be worth the expense to save this "free furniture" Good luck

I have heard several answers to this exact question. My husband got a free recliner from someone who smokes, and febreeze has not helped me either. A friend of mine has told me to let the piece of furniture sit in direct sunlight for a day and see if that would work, I have yet to try it, but it's next on my list. My husband has also yet to steam clean it with our steamer. If either of these work I'll let you know! Or if you get to it before I do let me know!! lol!

Hi
I would recommended cleaning your sofa with a steam cleaner and using a disinfectant like Milgo SR (may need to go to a janitorial supply store for this and ask for a disinfectant for carpet) and put it in the rinse water. Deodorizers just cover up the smell for a while and disinfectant kill bacteria in the fabric.

Please DO NOT put anything on the carpet that was not made for carpet
From a carpet cleaner for 14 years.

You need to have a professional cleaning service come and clean it! I am a smoker and have tried everything. I finally called a professional cleaning service and it removed the smell totally!!!
