Play video games by candlelight (lol). Go out to the store and get some cards ( Uno, Phase 10, Pinochle, Poker, etc. and a couple of board games and some pillar candles, a couple bottles of soda, some chips and a coffee thermos (if you don't have these on hand). Invite a few neighbors over for a game night. chill the soda ahead of time and make some coffee and fill the thermos. Light the candles and sit around the table. As long as each person has some sort of light source they can read their cards and play. A board game with candles set around usually is enough light to see the board.
This way you get to have some fun and help others out in the same situation. Who knows, you may even start a trend and gaming night will be come a regular event.

There are a lot of things to be done when the electricity is out. You can catch up on some reading, go outside and look at the stars, reminisce with your kids, go to the movies, have some fun!!, go secondhand shopping with $5.00 and see who can get the best deal, go visit someone who is in a convalescent hospital even if you don't know them I know they would like company. I hope that some of these ideas were of some help to you.

You can always plan to be somewhere where the power's on like at a friends or go see a movie etc. If you stay home you can light candles, use flashlights, and listen to transister radio if you have one.
