Try taking cod liver oil capsules as they are excellent for hair, nails, teeth and skin. It should prevent them from drying up.

I find that pure vitamin E oil works quite well... much better than any lip balm I ever used. See if you can find an oil that employs an eye dropper. That way, you're less likely to contaminate the oil in the bottle. Alternately, you could cut open a vitamin E capsule & spread the oil on your lips.

With vitamin E oil, the chapped lips problem usually subsides or completely in 2-3 days.

Stay away from products with petroleum ingredients in them.

You can make your own, too. Health food stores carry most all the ingredients.
Recipes on the internet, do a search.
Basically, beeswax, liquid oil such as almond oil, cocoa butter or shea butter. You can melt this in the microwave or in a double boiler on the stove. It's fun and easy and a wonderful product that is natural.

Eating a good nutritious diet and supplementing with a good natural multi vitamin. To boost your immune from colds during the winter extra zinc and echinacea are great. Check out this site they have lots of great information and books listed with homemade natural skin treatments that may have something for chapped lips.

I too like vitamin E. You can buy the liquid vitamin E and use that on your lips. If your lips are really flaky, use a baby toothbrush and brush gently as an exfoliator.

Or you can make your own lip balm using, beeswax, honey, avocado oil and an essential oil.

happy healing!
