Follow the spark plug wire from the cylinder that's closest to the front of the engine to the distributor. That will be #1 cylinder. I know it sucks, that GM doesn't mark the location on the distributor cap.

The number 1 cylinder is the one closest to you when in front of the engine. The #1 point on the cap is the one furthest from you on the right, closest to the firewall.
