In the early 80s I died my hair, had my ears pierced and wore some very strange clothes, all very fashionable and acceptable to my friends and peers. There was however some nasty setbacks to this, what started out as friendly banter and insinuations of being a "poof" quickly turned nasty and cumulated when I had the sh!t kicked out of me by a bunch of piss heads for being a queer bastard with aids.As I live on an estate, people who knew me found out about this and my attackers were dealt with more than once.
I'm not gay so all the insinuations and snide remarks were quite funny but not after that, I hated those guys and what they stood for I hated the pack violence involved and even the violent retribution they received.I was pleased with my friends for trying to help and annoyed with them for getting involved,I felt that it was my fault and that I should deal with it, I felt utterly useless.
A customer in the shop where I worked put it in perspective by telling me that all people that are different or in the minority are picked on because of fear and ignorance and that it will always happen and it wasn't anyones fault but society.
That was 25 years ago and he was right, people make a society and often it's an intolerant one full of prejudice and bigotry, and that still makes me angry.

If you are a bit overweight and people automatically think that you overeat, sometimes that is the case but some people are naturally larger, It is never nice being a victim of these views and can be very nasty some of the things people say, It knocks your confidence alot when this happens.

At the time I felt I was right, it is so much easier to follow a view than to think of one of your own.
Its a thing we see with teenagers a lot now, it is strange how they all seem to have the same views based on a combination of TV and there mates.

I felt like I was living in a world where they were putting me down, making me feel like I not good enough. and I did not have a voice. I used to get told little girls should be seen an not heard.
But I was wondering if you know the house is on fire and they don't. What should you do?

Without me explaining what the Muslim Stereotype is I can tell you that not one single thing is true for me. I think people that are stereotyped usually don't stereotype other people, and therefore become better people for it.

Angry and misunderstood at being pigeon-holed by the narrow-minded, prejudicial views of others when they assume that because I'm Irish, i'm some sort of alcoholic.

Angry, hurt, humiliated. That's what a guy can feel when he works in an office full of women and he's the only male.
