I have experience working on both of these cars....Personally I prefer the BMW but they are both excellent modes of tranportation....They both get about the same fuel mileage unless if the Bimmer had a manual tranmission, it will win in the fuel economy department. Mercedes does not make a manual gearbox for its large chassis cars. kind of a close comparison between the two also I believe the Merc would be labeled E320......
Go test drive both, decide which cars looks best on you, and purchase....About the same in price range, and maintenece costs are about the same. Good choices. which ever one you buy, just have a BMW or Mercedes mechanic look at it first and if it has too many miles, find another one. Sometimes sellers jack the price up way too high for the mileage.....If you suspect the price is too high, simply go to your local bank and give them the specs on the car with the vin number and apply for a loan....They will only give the seller what the car is really worth....If the seller declines...then walk away and find another one....Good luck.

I am a BMW fan - I had a 2002 325CI and she was like a rocket. My supervisor had a 2001 BMW 528IA M package and it really sucked.
Don't know much about the Mercedes but the BMW is just too big for the engine and it doesn't run. The acceleration is a disaster. Don't buy an automatic version ever of these cars. Get a manual transmission to feel the power and the joy of driving versus operatiing a machine., voum voum

after doing some research, i couldnt find any info on a e280. theres a C280 and a E320. If you ment C280 then go with that. If you ment E320 then go with the 528i.
Look wise, the BMW. It looks alot better in my opinion. Its a little less square.
Performance wise, the Benz. I don't know what BMW was thinking puting a 2.8 liter in a Mid-Size sedan. That small an engine in a with a heavy car means it probbibly accelerates slower.
But thats just my opinion. I don't know your personal preferences, so I can't realy help you make a disision.

I like the 528i for its looks and performance. A 10 yr old e280 is a bit out of style.

proper velocity that's limited with the help of DOT / MTO - the two vehicle can attain it under 8 seconds stability, protection - no longer an argument, the two are proper strategies yet be conscious the 4matic option in MB is larger designed than BMW X.
