The armenians formed part of the Ottoman empire (Turks) and when Turkey allied itself with Germany against Russia in WW1 some armenians joined the russian army to fight the turks.
Because of this the turkish government took the decision to destroy all armenians, men, women and children in 1915.
They did this by massacres and forced marches during which the armenians died of hunger, thirst and exhaustion , others were simply shot.
During this the turks were aided by the Kurds.
Over a million and a half armenians perished but the turks have never admitted this.
This was the first holocaust of the 20th century and gave Hitler the idea for eliminating the jews.
