You can only get pregnant if you have sex during the time you are ovulating (the time when your body realizes an egg). Ovulation generally takes place 14 days prior to your periods. If your cycle is 28 days, ovulation would occur exactly in the middle of the cycle (a cycle begins on the first day of your menstruation to the first day of your next menstruation). Since ovulation and menstruation do not take place at the same time, it is very unlikely that you can get pregnant if you have sex during your period.

The medical books will say that it is before, during and after your period. Shortly, time of ovulation (the middle of cycle) is the time you can get pregnant. But be avare, that the situation is not that simple.
On the other hand, it can happens sometimes that your ovarious do not dismis one but two or more eggs, so in that case even the safe days are not safe completely. My grandma got pregat after having sex while having her monthly flow.
So I think that using a condom is a good idea. It protects you both from pregnancy and deseeses.
Good luck

There is no "safe period" for sex. Even if you are on your period, you are still at risk of getting pregnant. The time that you are most likly to get pregnant though is midway through your cycle. so just stay away from sex durring those days. Use the birth control pill and use condoms with spermicide on it.

If I remember correctly it's 3 or 4 days prior to your period and the same after your period....but keep in mind, there really is no safe period of time for you to have sex, so if you don't want to get pregnant, PLEASE USE SOME SORT OF PRECAUTION.
All the best.....

A week before and a week after the approximate day of ovulation is considered to be Fertile period.
The days apart from this is called the safe periods, where the fertilization does not takes place.

There is no such thing as a safe period for sex. You can get pregnant at any time and STD's don't take a holiday either

The safe period is when you are using at least two methods of birth control.
The woman should be on some kind of birth control, and the man should use a condom. That should be sufficient to make it safe.

There is no "safe"period. there are times where you may be less likely to become pregnant. But it isn't definate. Use condoms, or birth control. If you live in Canada, your local health department will sell you birth control for a low cost and it's completely confidential.

The safest time is probably right before or during the period, but even then is not 100%.
Go on the pill, or get fixed is the only sure way.
