5 cents for the bottle and 95 cents for the juice

To solve algebraically:

Let x = cost of empty bottle
Then x+90 = cost of juice
And x + x + 90 = total cost = 100
So 2x = 10, x = 5

Hence, bottle cost = x = 5 cents,
and juice cost = x+90 = 95 cents

Let x represent the price of the juice, and y the price of the empty bottle.

The first equation (from the question):
x + y = 1

The second equation:
x = y + 0.9

Substitute the second equation into the first:
y + 0.9 + y = 1
2y = 1 - 0.9
2y = 0.1
y = 0.1/2
y = 0.05

From the second equation we formed at the beginning:
x = y + 0.9
x = 0.05 + 0.9
x = 0.95

Therefore, the juice costs $0.95, and the empty bottle costs $0.05.

Let x = cost of bottle. Then the cost of the juice = x + 0.9. The sum of the 2 = 1. So

x + x + 0.9 = 1

2x + 0.9 = 1

2x = 0.1

x = 0.05 = cost of bottle, cost of juice is still 0.90 more ($0.95)

x = empty bottle
x+ 0.90 = juice

empty bottle + juice = bottle of juice
x + x + 0.90 = 1.00
2x + 0.90 = 1.00
2x = 1.00
x = 0.05

Empty Bottle = 0.05
Juice = 0.95
