Well for beginners beings it has been sitting and not ran the fuel inside the carb has dissipated into the air. So you have to pump the gas pedal a few times also with the choke to get fuel to the engine. Lets say that you are getting fuel however you may not be getting enough look at the fuel filter. Now beings you getting fuel you may not be getting spark or not enough. Where you may want to look is by checking for spark by holding a plug by metal or vice versa. If you have spark your plugs could fouled and that may be part of the problem of turning but no fire.
You may even need to look at the ignition module if your van may have one but that may not be the case. Well I hope this will help you with your syptoms.

all internal combustion engines need a few things to work, air, fuel and spark...all of them...
so lets start off by making sure there is air getting too the fuel system by taking off the cover for the air cleaner....and try it now...if nothing, turn off key, and take a spark plug wire off one of the spark plugs, get a locking pliers type Visegrips adn a screw driver, put the screw driver into the spark plug wire, where the spark plug goes...put the locking pliers on the screw driver, place them so they are approximately a quarter of an inch from some grounded metal..keep it away from any fuel source ( or fire) and have some one turn the key so the engine turns over several times...you should be able to see a spark..if you do not.. ( be careful this can hurt ) make sure the screw driver is in the metal part inside of the spark plug wire..adn move it so it is near metal..as you move it..have some one turn the engine over...wear rubber gloves..and see if there is a spark..if no..then you have a problem with your distributor, or that plug wire..switch to another wire adn test again..if no..then check inside of distributor cap...
you can go tot he library and look this all up...
it could also not be getting any gas..
so you could take a squirt bottle with gas, ( be careful..) and squirt it in the carburetor when turning over the engine..if it starts, keep it going a for a minute if is starts to stall by squirting gas in it.if it stops, it is fuel filter clogged or needle valve in carb, or fuel pump
go to the library adn look this stuff up, it is not that hard, but get acquainted with your vehicle from the service manuals there....
you can do it..really you can..go adn learn..save maybe from a few hundred to several hundred dollars by doing it all yourself...

good luck

There are TOO many reasons to list here. I'm sorry, but if you're looking for a freebie, you're not going to get it here. You haven't exactly gone into a lot of detail about the problem. Something is obviously missing here. Spark? Fuel? Any vehicle that has been sitting for a period of time will inevitably encounter difficulty upon intial startup. Do you have FRESH gasoline in it?

well first of all you need to get the battery checked. you may have to spend a little money because you may need a new starter. the battery may have a dead cell in it because it has been sitting for so long. electrical problems on cars can be very tricky because of all the wires and componets that start the enginge and power the car and all of it 's componets, power windows, radio, lights, ect.good luck.it shouldnt cost too much money to fix

It might be your fuel filter or fuel pump. It might also need to have the carburetor charged.
