It means: "this answer is one that other people didn't like"
~ now see how many thumbs down I get for that, ha!
Oh yeah, and that little box where you choose your threshold? Yeah, it don't work, I've tried!

At the top of where the answers start you'll see a drop down box that is set to "above -2" by default. This is where you set the threshold of what answers you want to be shown. anything that has a net score of less than -2 will be collapsed
so if the answer has 1 psotive vote and 4 negative votes its net score is -3 and will not be shown
If you set it to show all answers before you start browsing it will show them all.

It means yahoo answers is trying to make the site more helpful but is just making it more stupid and confusing. Basically, when answers get thumbs downed, they receive a negative rating. When an answer is below your threshold, it means it has a lower rating than the limit you set to the right of the page just under the question.

lol those make me laff whenever I read that 'below your threshold' part.
anyways, if you look at the drop-down menu across from where it says ANSWERS then it says show: answers rated above -2
well if any answer has a net worth of -2(if there are 2 more thumbs down ratings than thumbs up ratings) in its rating, then it is below -2. in order to make it not 'below your threshold' then you have to change the rating of answers that it will show... thus the drop-down menu.
if that didnt make sense, then just do some exploring of the ratings. that should help

after they started doing the "thumbs up/down" thing, you have the ability to set a "threshold" for total "tumbs down".
any answer below your threshold of number of "thumbs down" is minimized. you can still click on the and view that one answer, or, you can change your threshold.
I only answered seriously cuz its you, anyone else would have got a BS answer
