15cm= about 6"

Common pet species that stay under this range include:

- American Mud turtles, like the Mississippi mud (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/cs-mismud.htm)

- American Musk turtles, like the Razorback (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/cs-razrbk.htm)

- MALE Painted turtles often stay in this range (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/caresheet-eastern_painted.htm)

- Spotted turtle (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/cs-spotted.htm)

- Reeves turtle (China) (http://tortoise.org/archives/reeves.html)

- Four-eyed turtle (http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/cs-4eye.htm)

If you are thinking about land turtles, the Box turtles are in the range, and the Western hermann's tortoise usually stays around that size.

A Map Turtle from the local pet store is the smallest turtle that I know. Paying more for it, is only because it will stay smaller then the Red Earred Slider per say. It requires a lot of room and water cleaning. I have a RES and it's a year and a great pet. It's fun to watch but takes responsiblity.

The smallest turtle I know of is a three striped mud turtle. I was on a mission to find a small turtle, myself, not so long ago.

I ended up with a texas map turtle and a southern painted turtle because I wanted "slider-like" turtles. Muds are a bit different looking and have different personalities. Texas maps are generally smaller that Southern painteds. Check out turtletimes.com for a great "what kind of turtle to buy" guide.

If you want a small turtle, I wouldn't go with Leopard tortoises or spurred tortoises. They can grow to be quite huge.
Mud turtles are a good choice

Hope this helps :)

Don't get a turtle then please

Turtles are mistakenly purchased because they are very small and cute as babies. (The size of a quarter)

However adult turtles grow up to one foot long.They also need big tanks 50-75 gallons. They are often given up because their owners did not think they would get too big.

Please re-consider your choice of having a turtle (perhaps have a frog or a lizard) or understand that healthy turtles are not small pets.
