Santa Claus is a variation of a Dutch folk tale based on the historical figure Saint Nicholas, a bishop from the Myra in Asia Minor (contemporary Turkey), who used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering.

"Santa Claus" is actually a mispronunciation of the Dutch word "Sinterklaas" by the English settlers of New Amsterdam (later renamed New York). Whilst in those countries Saint Nicholas is celebrated as a distinct character with a religious touch seperate from Christmas, Santa Claus is also making inroads as a symbol during Christmas.

Santa Claus is a corruption of the name Saint Niklaus (who was from Anatolia (modern Turkey). It is not actually Saint Claus.

Santa does mean saint BUT specifically a female saint. San is a male saint. For example San Pedro (Saint Peter), Santa Maria (Saint Mary). So it would be San Nicholas not Santa Nicholas.

Hi Engineer
Santa Claus is a Nordic or German legend based on Saint Nicholas. Don't know for certain but perhaps Santa may be the German/Nordic pronunciation for saint. The Claus is just a shortening of Nicholas. In original pics of the fat geezer in the suit and beard, his clothing was black. It was early 20th century advertising by Coca Cola that gave him the red and white gear (company colours) which was clever advertising.

We say Santa Claus because as you may already know santa claus is really Saint Nicklaus wo was Turkish.
It was then adjusted to Sinta Klaus which is the foreign name for Saint Nicklaus.
Then in the late 1800's ,in America, a well known company called coca cola took him on as a symbol at Christmas time and changed it to Santa Claus and also changed his outfit from the original Green colour to red as we know it today.

Santa Claus is the personification of the "spirit of Christmas", a fictitious figure based on the real 4th-century bishop and patron saint of children, Saint Nicholas.
Please don't tell the kiddies this, O.K.!

Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, Santy, or simply Santa is a gift-giving figure in various cultures who distributes presents to children, traditionally on December 24, Christmas Eve. The popular American form Santa Claus originated as a mispronunciation of Dutch Sinterklaas, which is a contracted form of Sint Nicolaas (Saint Nicholas).

Saint is a term used to refer to someone who is a holy person. The term comes from the New Testament, where it is used to refer to all Christian believers. Over the years the term has grown to be used and accepted in other Christian, religious, and even secular contexts, to refer to those who are considered to be exceptionally virtuous or glorified in heaven. Hence a "saint" (cont. with sinner) is a (usually deceased) person whose life is regarded by a community as a good example, and their life story is remembered for sake of inspiring others.

Abbreviation for the term Saint is usually “St.” or “St”; in cases where multiple Saints are referenced SS. is the norm.

Because Santa Clause is actually Satan in disguise, just look at his name.Take the 'n' and move it to the end. Saint Nick; however, brought toys to poor children.
