To multiply fractions, fundamentally the answer is the product of the numerators (top numbers) divided by the product of the denominators (bottom numbers). For example,

(2/3) * (3/7) = (2*3)/(3*7) = 6/21

When any of the fractions contain whole parts such as the "4" in your problem, it does slightly complicate it. Let me show you 2 slightly different ways to deal with this situation, you pick the one you like:

Your problem can be rewritten as

(4 + 2/7)*(8/11) =

[4 * (8/11)] + [(2/7) * (8/11)] =

(32/11) + (16/77) =

224/77 + 16/77 =

240/77

Or you can do this shortcut, which converts the "4" to "elevenths" - multiple it (the "4") by the denominator (7) then add the numerator (2). 4*7 = 28, plus 2 = 30. This will be your new numerator. Now the problem looks like:

(30/7) * (8/11) =

(30 * 8)/(7*11) =

240/77

Get it?

Turn 4 2/7 into a improper fraction:
30/7

Now, you can multiply it by 8/11:
(30/7)*(8/11)=240/77 or 3 9/77

Change the first fraction to an improper fraction 30/7

then multiply

30/7 * 8/11

Nothing cancels so it is 240/77 which is 3 9/77

the first thing is to convert the first side to an irregular fraction

4 2/7 = 30/7 (because 4x7 = 28 and then you add2 to get 30)

now multiply 30/7 x 8/11 = 240/77 (multiply the tops together and the bottoms together)

now you can leave it at 240/77 or if you want to convert it, you can divide 77 back into 240 and you get

3 9/77

4 2/7 is 30/7

30/7*8/11

30*8=240

7*11=77

240/77=3 9/77

the answer is 3 9/77
