Momentum and kinetic energy of the system are both conserved. When two objects collide, if they stick together after the collision then that's a perfectly inelastic collision. If they bounce off each other it's an elastic collision. In a perfectly elastic collision no energy is lost to heat or anything else, which technically is impossible.
