There are more differences than similarities. Under Imperialism, the powerful nation conquers the lesser with force, subjugates it to their rule, and siphons money OUT of that nation. Under the poorly named globalization no one is conquered, the rich nations of the west have, in practice, pumped money INTO developing nations as direct government transfers, capital investments, technology investments, training and other ways. Economic studies have shown over and over that poor nation benefit immensely from what unions refer to as 'exploitation' in 'sweat shops'. What you don't understand is that 14 hour $1 a day job is often BETTER than the domestically available equivalent which is typically either subsistence farming or other labor that often pays less than these sweat shops. Some studies find that export driven jobs in these sweat shops are often paying nearly double the going rate in their local economies. Remember, cost of living in these nations is not the same as the US. Comparing the costs to US labor rates is the height of irrelevance. It disgusts me that some people just swallow what the unions tell them about globalization being "exploitation". How about you go ASK those people if they'd rather have Nike close up shop and leave before you appoint yourself their moral leader?

What's the difference between globalization and globalisation? I know they are very similar terms but don't they have different meanings?

They are synonyms - that is, they are spelt differently but have the SAME meaning.
Most Americans use the "Z" spelling and Brit's tend to use the "S" spelling.

I think one, globalization, is to exploit the world. To take total advantage of ecological resources, like trees and water, just for our own benefit.
But the other means to truly unite and help the peoples of the world, and improve their living conditions.
