X^3 -X^2 -X+7 divided by X+1

sorry, i dont know how to type exponents. in case you dont understand that, let me write it out.

X cubed minus X squared minus X plus 7. all divided by X plus one.

You typed exponents just fine!

x^3 - x^2 -x + 7 divided by x+1 is a "long division" type problem rather than factoring because x+1 doesn't go evenly into the polynomial

The answer is x^2 -2x + 1 + 6/x+1
