What courses should you take in college in order to go to med school? Do you need to be an A.P. and/or straight A student in order to go to med school? What skills do you need in order to be a surgeon?

It varies from school to school, but basically you have to take 2 semesters of biology with a lab, 2 semesters of general chemistry with a lab, 2 semesters of organic chemistry with a lab, 2 semesters of physics with a lab, 2 semesters of english, and 1 semester of calculus.
Most medical schools don't give a minimum GPA or MCAT score requirement, but they will post the average GPA and MCAT scores on their Web site. Usually, the average GPA is 3.5-3.8 and the average MCAT score can range from 27-low 30's depending on the school.
You won't encounter specialites (such as surgery) the last two years of medical school. You could get an internship in a hospital in surgery while you are in college and that would probably be helpful.

Take biology, math, life sciences. A standard pre med curriculum should serve you well. Bone up on math so you can calculate things like miliequivalents. Know chemistry and organic chemistry. Medical school admission is based on need. If they need a lot of Docs, then they will be less selective grade wise. A lot of pros are suspect of straight A students, remember. In a way it shows a lack of well roundedness. Be well rounded, join clubs at school. They look at stuff like that. If you can get some kind of work in the field while in college: experience counts. Good luck.

You need to be pretty close to being a straight A student to get into med school. As to specifics, try: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos074.htm#training

do well in school, take as many advance level courses as you can, join clubs, hold leadership positions, have experience (part time at hospital, nursing home, etc...). memorization and if you are a hard worker then you can get in.
