ALWAYS attach the positive cable first. Just in case the battery gets grounded, there will not be a short. If there is a short, you can short out one or more of the cars computers. Now, many late model cars are very dependent on their computers and if you disconnect the battery, you may have problems. You should consult your owners manual first, or, call a dealer to ask. Some cars will not even start up if a battery is removed. One of the computers may have to be updated. If your car has a BCM (body control module) you should be careful before removing the battery.

I definitely agree. Attach the positive first and the negative last. Same with jumper cables. I was told to put the positive on first and the negative on last.

Put the positive on first so you don't take a chance on a spark igniting the battery.

YES, it is safer to attach the positive first, that way if when you are attaching the ground you happen to touch any metal there is no short circuit.
