I really dont believe that there is a cure for terrorism. There is no way that everyone in the world will ever get along, we all just have different mentalities, sadly President Bush found that out the hard way!!

I do not believe that democracy is a cure for terrorism. Neither democracy nor terrorism are that simple.

Democracy is tricky because there are certain cultural norms that must be in place for democracy to work. The most important of these norms, in my opion, is a basic respect for human beings. Theoretically, the government respects the wishes of the people being governed. In a free society, for example, the people watch the government. In an oppressive society, the government watches the people. Democracy as practiced in the US today doesn't feel like it is based in respect, and that, unfortunately, is a reflection of our society as a whole. However, the people in our society are somewhat respectful, good-hearted, and socially responsible, so the democracy we have still is the best in the world. But if our society continues on its path of declining respect, then we won't be able to sustain true democracy. Trying to impose democracy on countries and cultures where respect is based on fear and where control has been historically maintained by oppressive use of power is a mistake, in my opinion. The real foundation of democracy, which is respect for human beings, is not embedded in the culture. By the way, corporations respect only one thing, and it's not you. Corporations are not human beings, and they are not citizens, yet they seem to have more power and more entitlements than the people. But I digress ...

And then there is terrorism. To be honest, I don't know enough about the social, cultural, and psychological dynamics of terrorism to understand how it can be reduced. It seems clear that whatever George Bush and the US government are now doing to address terrorism is not the right thing, because it is just creating more terrorists and leading to more terrorism. Granted, the US is simply applying the logic of self interest to the situation, but that is not the right logic to use at this point in history. We need a bigger, more heartfelt, and more humane logic to face the dangers of the future.

Democracy ITSELF is not a cure for terroism. It might provide a very indrect way of getting there, ie voting certain people in power, showing that the people do not reflect the views of the elected officials, etc. As the election just showed, the American people have not been happy with this administration. But it does not automatically make the terrorists lay down their arms. It's a means to an end.

However, so long as there is strife, political, economical and religious, there will be terrorism. Sadly that is a dark side of techonology--it provides advances and cures, but it also provides other ways of hurting, killing and destroying.

No, there is no cure for terrorism - there will always be people who would use these tactics.
However, if there is a democratic alternative in a country, then it is a possible way to make change happen without the need to sacrifice innocent lives. Where there is simply no hope of change, that is where terrorism gains a proper footing eg. Palestine. The US again, sorry, yet again used its UN veto to defeat the UN condemning Israel. Whilst the US continues to use its veto to allow Israel carte blanche to commit crimes under international law, there is no alternative to terrorism for the Palestinians.
Democracy must also offer a genuine choice, if it is to make any difference.

No, because the terrorists are radicals, Democracy brings the kinds of freedoms they hate, like porn, dirty movies, girls with little cloths, Bikinis, shorts, rap music, loose morals, and way to many freedoms for women. Besides our policies in the middle east, they hate what we export in the way of low morals,Through our movies. Their Religious leaders will not tolerate that so they will continue to fight, they want us destroyed totally. And now they want world domination. If you don't convert you die.

Sounds like some propaganda to me. Don't appear to me those you call terrorist really care about your political views. They are Muslims and seems family and faith are their top priority. Bin Laden has a very militant Muslim faith that is pretty well rejected throughout the Middle East

The cure for terrorism is defeating, eliminating, incarcerating terrorists. They don't win, they can't win, they won't win. If free people have to kill 100 million terrorists to win, so be it.
