TEN FANTASTIC FACTS ABOUT ELEPHANTS
1) The most famous elephant in the world is probably McGinty, the elephant that outdrinks Irishmen in Durty Nelly's Pub in Northern Ireland. In his heyday in the 50's McGinty got more fan mail than the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined.
2) Elephants are very sarcastic.
3) When hunting lions, elephants tuck their trunks in to their ears so that they blend in with the savannah background. They also do this if another elephant has farted.
4) In 1931 Hollywood was scandalised by Fatty Arbuckle's affair with Fru Fru, a (married) elephant. Neither Arbuckle nor FruFru's career (she was an ice-dancer) survived the media backlash.
5) Many people assume that elephants are mammals. They are in fact a form of wingless bird.
6) Just as jews are often blamed for catastrophic events in the global community, so elephants are often blamed for disaster in the savannah community. Because of this, many elephants refer to themselves as jewlephants.
7) Famous musical elephants include Jimi Hendrix, Larry Adler, Cyndi Lauper, Jeff Beck and that guy out of the Corrs.
8) In 1914 the elephant population of London was 12. It is now 15.
9) Elephants have the most natural rhythm of all the savannah animals. During spring and summer, elephants often give salsa and merengue classes to students in North London.
10) If you are very sad and very lonely, and you think hard enough about a elephant, one will appear beside you.

All animals have emotions. It's just that humans are either too arrogant, too stupid, or simply are unable to understand animals well enough to sense it. However, with elephants their intellgence and emotions are well documented because they are capable of showing their emotions in such a way that humans can see it. It has even been documented that they mourn for their dead.
I don't know when your research paper is due, but I recommend watching some documentaries on elephants. National Geographic and Animal Planet have aired some good ones.
Here, this should help you.
