My BF (condo-owner) insists on laying the cable. Can you lay cable over/around a doorframe? I don't think so. Is there a code on that? I'm not sure. I'm thinking lay it under the hardwood floor to get it across the room, not around the door frame. He says that's too difficult, afraid of breaking the planks. What's the best way to do this?

In my old condo, I had the cable layed under the hardwood floors throughout my place. I had extra hardwood planks, my BF doesn't have any extra for his.

Need help, some solid advice or suggestions.

You can lay the cable around as you please.Your bf is right about the difficulty of laying it under the floorboards. Now if it absolutely has to be hidden, other then going wireless, and with a little work you can hide it directly behind the baseboards and door trim.Just be careful not to break the boards in doing this, a nail punch is used to punch the nails thur the boards instead of trying to pull them.

Around here the cable company will do that when you get the service, either for free or for a nominal charge. I would ask them what they charge and if they won't do it I would ask them these questions because they have faced this issue a lot.

no code against running over door frame, etc as this is not an electrical wire.

best option is no wire and go wireless across the room.

Your boyfriend is right. As long as he is handy, he can lay it however he wants. It is just something you need to agree on.
