How do you prepare a music lesson for your class and what grade is it? What kinds of songs are appropriate for their age level to teach them to play on the recorder (soprano baroque-English fingering) or even the piano? Any suggestions on how to teach a musical concept like melody, rhythm, etc? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As far as recorders & piano go, I don't know. But as far as dynamics for kindergarden kids go, you can teach them fast & slow. Using the "Old Macdonald" song. Ask the kids what animals go slow & sing the slow slowly, then ask them what animals go fast & they can sing it faster. Example: turtle (slow) and rabbit (fast). With fast & slow you are teaching them the tempo. Also, for dynamics (loud & soft) they can sing "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt" [one of my faves!]

Hot Cross Buns & Mary Had A Little Lamb.

They're the easiest to play, and the first songs I learned on my recorder.

For christmas, the first song I learned on Piano was "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" It was SO easy. I still remember the words. And I'm sure you could learn that on recorder, too.

Glad to help!
