Depends on the girl. 14-16 is usually okay for a light amount.

When she needs it!
Lucky you - and wise not to overapply makeup. I didn't start till university (strict parents) and stuck to eyeliner, powder, and a low-colour lipstick.
For a formal occasion you might want to bring your eyes out with a soft pencil liner (one which twists out, like MK, is easier on the eyes than the kind that have to be sharpened) and perhaps just a smudge of shadow over the eyesocket, like pink or peach (you don't give any details as to your eye/hair/skin colour, but there are puh-LEN-tee of makeup sites available which will tell you in excruciating details what will suit you).
If you have good skin, avoid foundation and powder. Sporadic zits can be covered with a little creamstick (looks like a lipstick but in beige/tan/brown) that just hides the spot.
Coloured lipgloss is probably all you need - if you want a more defined mouth, use a neutral liner and then put the gloss over it.
And whatever you put on - take it off at night, thoroughly! That's the way to keep your natural beauty and your healthy skin - plus, of course, your sunblock!
Bravo for your sensible choices, and if you're happy with how you look, don't let anyone (including me, your mom, your boyfriend) influence you otherwise.
Thumbs up,
Bardmistress

Makeup is a personal choice.
I am a tad bit older then you having a 16 year old boy and I still do not ware the stuff.
I have older sisters that I have seen cry over there make up and never wanted to be so insecure with myself. Makeup is not something to cry over. You are doing fine and it appears you do not need anyones approval, you are 17 now and do not ware much of it. More power to you!
Just by this question you seam to be a self secure person who other girls your age might give you a hard time because they them selfs are not as secure as you are with yourself.
Make up is your own personal choice, I feel sorry for the girls out there who wake up and go to bed with it on. These types (my one sister) needs sociological help......

well your fine with what your doing. whatever makes you comfortable ..even just lip gloss is fine. i'd say 14 is a good age but then again whenever you feel the need to add a little bit of glam. (just dont over-do it) most girls have that natural beauty so they usually never wear makeup

There is no age that you definitely have to wear makeup. Wear what is comfortable for you. If your just going to glass, you are doing fine. If you want to add more for a casual date, add a little lipstick and mascara and eyeshadow, don't forget to paint the toes and nails. For that formal evening, like prom, because you don't have any experience applying a lot of makeup go to Carson's or Macy's makeup counter and make an appointment to have your makeup done.

I think it's not a matter of age, but how mature the girl is. A girl shouldn't wear a ton of makeup every day, but only on special occasions. I like that you only wear the above. I'm 14, and I wear lipgloss and once in a while a bit of mascara.

Girls shouldn't wear makeup earlier than 18. Why put on makeup when you don't need to. You mentioned that you put on sunscreen, which is good, because you're protecting your skin. Look your age, some young teens put on so much makeup that they actually ruin their skin and don't look their age. You're only young once, so let your youth be shown through your skin. There will be plenty of time in the future for you to put on makeup. If you want to put on makeup, don't put on excessive amounts, keep it minimal.

I started wearing makeup when I was 13, but that's because all my friends did it and it was the 90's. If you don't need makeup to look awesome, don't wear it. If you are happy with sunscreen and a little lipgloss, why bother?

It depends if u like your look without makeup. I started wearing makeup at 12. But i dont cake it on. I stay natural just enhance my look. If you want to wear more try a skin highlighter to add a little glow. And a little mascara to make your eyes light up.
