I don't know much about cells. I never usemine, only for work related stuff and calling my mom( in my city). But this girl language exchange conversation partner who lives in my city, just met her, and she gave me this phone number that has an area code that is not the same as my cities area code. I don't want to get charged alot.....so i'm wondering, is her phone still local, or why does it have a different area code.... I know many of you use the cell alot and know about this stuff...

If it is not a local area code for your area, then it is a long distance phone call. Check your phone plan to see how you pay for your calls. God Bless

Sure! You can sue the city but I doubt you'll get very far, sadly. Try starting with the bar. Research your city codes and ordinances. Record the patrons of the bar drinking outside, any fights that go unattended and the noise pollution. This was done in my town of Modesto a while back, it shut down a bar on the outskirts of down town area. Present all your videos and documentations to the local authorities and if they pay no never mind to it, try taking it to the mayor. That's all I can help ya with hopefully someone else can help a bit better! Yes, filling a class action suit would probably be the way to go but it would be difficult to find enough people that would be interested. I've always just disregarded any offers sent my way :/

Call her on your cell when your minutes are free. She might have moved to the area and still has family in another state. This would be a local call for her family. Call her and have the conversation then you will know if she has resently moved to this area.

Well that often happens when someone either moves into your area with their old phone or buys a prepaid phone when they were visiting or living out of the area. Yes you will pay long distance connecting with that area code.

She has a different area code because that is the area of where she got her service.

She may have got her cell phone some where else, maybe another state. I know because my best friend moved to another state and kept her account with the same number for here. If you are both with the same carrier, like cingular you can talk for free...Other ones I don't know, you may want to call your carrier!

THE FACTS: all cell phones come with a calling plan, you need to check yours. mine includes all other phones, local regional and long distance but not international all for free. good luck and enjoy
