The abstract contains the summary of the whole project that includes the key highlights of your experiment or investigation. Here's what it's most likely to contain:
1.) Objectives - What is your project's purpose? If you did a lot of observations, what hypothesis led you to this investigation or experiment?
2.) Materials and Processes / Procedures - What did you use to do in your experiment? You really don't need too much details here. Just say the main things and procedures you used and did.
3.) Results: So, what happened your project? Did it work?
4.) Conclusion: Does the result make sense with your hypothesis? If you expecting something during the experiment, what happened? How does you experiment contribute to future researches on this field?
If you can provide all the answers on these questions, you can write your abstract. It's usually just a page long; giving a general idea of "what happened".
This means that the abstract is one of the last pages that you're supposed to be doing although it is found on the first parts of your write-up. So do the experiment first, and walk through most of the project before writing the abstract. Hope this helps!

The abstract is a brief overview of the project. It should not be more than one page and should include the project title, a statement of the purpose, a hypothesis, a brief description of the procedure, and the results. There is no one way to write an abstract, but it should be brief. Often, a copy of the abstract must be submitted to the science fair officials on the day of judging, and it is a good idea to have copies available at your display. This gives judges something to refer to when making final decisions. It might also be used to prepare an introduction by a special award sponsor, so do a thorough job on this part of your report.

Its a very brief summary of what was done. Some important points of the introduction, the purpose (not word for word, restate it shorter), some methods discussion and conclusion. Read some abstracts on other papers, the more you read the better feel you have for what needs to be in there. it shouldnt be more than half a page or so and be consise, no wasted words. A full description will be in the paper, its just like the summary on the back fo a book
