1. Bush said that a vote for the Dems is a vote for terrorists
2. The Dems won both houses
3. Bush backed off his rhetoric and now pledges to "work together"
4. Nancy Pelosi is the first woman Speaker of the House - third in line to the presidency (Pres, VP, Speaker)
5. The day before the election, Bush said Rumsfeld would never leave
6. The day after the election, Bush announced that Rumsfeld is stepping down and has already been replaced with a nominee
7. The nominee, Robert Gates, is the president of Texas A&M, and a close friend of Bush's dad
8. Kerry almost blew it for the Dems with his bad "joke" (Google it for more info)
9. Hillary Clinton (D) won in NY
10. Rick Perry (R) won in TX, even though 60% of Texans voted AGAINST him. That's because there were 5 candidates for governor.
That should get you started. I'd suggest Google for more.

The most obvious and significant one is that the political control of both the US House of Representatives and the US Senate changed power from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party.
Also here is an off beat but still politically interesting....no one seemed to be complaining about hanging chads in Ohio or Florida this time. What a surprise. Sorry for the political editorializing at the end.
Good luck with your project.

Not only did the Democrats capture control of the senate and the house, but they also captured a majority of governorships that will help determine how state districts are drawn up. Also many state legislatures went to the Democrats. This will be especially important in the 2008 presidential elections.

1. The outcome of the election means that a woman will be named Speaker of the House for the first time. 2. You may want to mention that the Internet influenced this election more heavily than any to date: videos on YouTube evidently swayed votes in both directions.

Briefly, in rebuttal to feathery, ...........
There isn't going to be any re-districting until 2011. The Governors who won this year are still going to have to get re-elected in 2010 in order to influence the next round of re-districting.
