Quality time is what's important.
I would rather have 2 great friends than 100 acquaintances. And to spend good fun time with those 2 friends is what's the best.

The fact that you are a true friend is always the most important thing. But your friends need to know that when they need you the most you will be there for them. Friendship is a two way street. If you can't hang out make sure you are taking the time to stay in touch... a quick phone or short email is better than nothing. If they are giving you a hard time about not being around you should look at what is going on. Maybe they miss you.

If they are there when you need then be it on the phone or in person that is all it takes be counted as your friend.
My best friend lives in a completely different city but she is STILL my best friend.
It feels like we are still in the same state when we talk.

the fact that their your friends because u first have to be their friend b4 they wanna hang out with u at all. its hard to hang out with someone all the time who really isn't your friend....u would be just wasting your time by doing so.

THE FACT THAT THEY ARE MY FRIENDS! I HAVE A LOT OF FRIENDS BUT THEY ARE ALL SPREAD OUT. NOT HANGING OUT DOESN'T CHANGE A THING, IF THEY ARE GOOD FRIENDS YOU WILL ALWAYS PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF.
