A family tragedy is preventing my family from cooking this year and I'm wondering if any of you have ever taken that leap of faith and ordered a full pre-cooked Holiday dinner from one of your local grocery stores and had a good outcome? Normally, we'd cook but that's not in the stars for us this year. I sure hope next year is better. I don't know anyone who has done this. If you have, could you share your experience? Thanks so much, friends.

Yes, we did that one year. The food was OK, some of it was very good. It did NOT taste the same as our traditional family meal. If a family tragedy is preventing cooking the meal, I would take the leap of faith and order the meal. The most important thing is to be together and lend each other your support. I hope your Thanksgiving will be a loving and healing time and that it will bring your family closer to each other, and that the coming year will be better for all of you.

Here is what I would do:

Pre-cooked chickens or turkey breast from your local supermarket. Reheat in the oven.

Canned whole-berry and jellied cranberry sauce.

Pre-cut veggies and ranch, olives and sweet pickles out of a jar to make a "relish tray".

Smoked oysters and clams (canned) if your family likes them.

Rolls from the bakery (mix a little honey in some softened butter for spread). Easy and delicious.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope your family still has lots to be thankful for.

Never tried it. We started cooking before the Holiday day arrives. The turkey the afternoon before. Then peeled and got all the veg ready and when the time comes, we just turn on the stove and wait. Saved a lot of energy and stress.

Yes. I've had much more success with the honey-baked ham than with the turkey. Also, get the ham pre-sliced. Why have more work than is necessary?

Yes, that should be fine. Honey Baked Ham has great meals, or some place like Sam's. It's fine- don't stress out.

I have before, and they turn out great, relieve a lot of hassle, and really don't taste much different.

Yes it was fine. You can add some garnish to make it look more homemade

Be careful where you get them; I got one at Von's and it was terrible!
