I am from sunny California, so I don't have a clue about what to wear to a place like New York where it is cold and snows. I am on a budget, so please recommend affordable clothes! My style is trendy-casual yet feminine and I am a size small. Where should I shop and what basics do I need for New York? Thanks in advance!!

new york is VERY UBER trendy. As you said you're on a budget...you could always stop @ Forever 21 and get cute clothes @ a cheap price. It's going to be cold, so you're going to need a winter coat (preferably a pea coat or a velvet blazer..any color), you'll need some skinny jeans ( you can get cheap one's @ Express or Gap) and you'll need some cute boots to wear OVER the jeans (flat boots are really in this winter). Shirt wise...you can pretty much do whatever looks cute on your..the 80's look is in this winter...also, get a cute hat to wear..and a cute handbag. When on a budget, opt for a replica handbag (fake chanel, chloe, balenciaga..whatever! No one can usually tell the difference) remember, big bags are in this year, too!

Alright. Living near NYC, I have some basic essentials for you.

- A nice, warm parka/ pea coat
- Gloves/Mittens/Scarves/Earmuffs
- Jeans
- A few dressy but casual tops
- PJ's, obviously
- A few nice, warm sweaters
- Leggings, to wear under pants for extra warmth, or to wear under a skirt

Again, these are just some basics. It all really depends on what you're planning to do and how the weather is. Have fun!

Go to Winners and get the cheap coats that don't look like it's been in da trash, and u really need knee high boots and note, u need to be able to walk in it. Don't get things like lose shacfs(sp?) ect., because it really really windy and u really dont wanna see a $25 dollar hat fly off in da wind (my sis is still cryin' bout da), and DON'T Wear capris, ect., or any white! My friend got bird-poop on her favorite jacket! (and the treas blow!) So, Things like jeans, full selves sheaters and normal things like trended shirts can get eyes away from things u don't want people to see! And Always carry a camara with u!

Peace and have fun in NY,

Warm and comfortable clothing. GAP or JcPenney Online stores great stuff everything put together for you. Hat, gloves and a scarf are a must. It can get very cold. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and God Bless - have a safe trip.

You don't need to bring much, except for maybe some clothes. And yes, NYC is gay-friendly. There are areas like the West Village & Chelsea with a lot of gays.

First how long will you be here, just a guess 3-4 weeks, a ton of long sleeve shirts are necessary, jeans that are comfortable , cords if you have then there good, boots comfortable for walking ex. uggs if you already have them, comfortable jacket 1-2, big coat, gloves, scarfs.

I agree with response #2. People there are VERY persnickety about clothes. They are rich and fabulous, so u wanna b just like them, minus the snobbyness. (no offense to ANYONE from New York. Its just the last time i went, everyone was like that, so, ya)
