I just ran a bath as have to go to bed and forgot about it and its an inch from the top and bloody boiling and I mean boiling hot. I can't run any cold water as there's no room and I cant get my hand into the bath to pull the plug as the chains broke and its too hot. I don't want to wait till it cools down as it'll take forever and I need to wash. Whats a girl to do?

Use a jug and scoop some of the water into the sink.

Are you blonde Katie?

Your bath should have an overflow, usually a couple of inches below the taps. This should allow the water to flow out down the drain, bypassing the plug, the water level should not go past this point.

Just turn on the cold water tap slowly, the overflow holes are not as large as the plughole. As the cold water flows in, use something to stir the water, so that you get an even cooling of the bath water.

You don't want to step into the bath where the cold water tap was and find it's still boiling hot at the other end.

If you have a pail start bailing out buckets of hot water and dumping them in sink. When it gets down lower throw in ice cubes. If you hit a good temperature than go for the bath. Otherwise get it down low enough that you can put on a pair of those rubber dishwashing gloves and pull the stopper for the rest of the draining.

Before your next bath get a new chain.

Well, that little metal thing under the spout drains water...get a bucket and slowly pour cold water in. When it gets to the metal drain, it will slowly drain....then you can get it to a point that you can at least put your hand in and use the real drain and add some cold water from the faucet!

well you either dish some out so you can then add cold water, or wash in the sink and take out plug in the morning
