I think Rumsfeld took one for the team. He is a true patriot. Sometimes politics get in the way of being a human being, but he has stayed true to those that were around him. He might look like a lot of things to a lot of people, but he takes a lot of criticism because he knows in the end he is right. He is a good man. He reminds me a little of Reagan, old school.

Many in the military didn't like Rumsfeld or the job he was doing. See last week's Military Times editorial.

Many civilian conservatives didn't like Rumsfeld either. In fact, Newt Gingrich blamed Bush's preelection endorsement of Rumsfeld for the loss of several Republican Senate seats! Andy Card, Bush's former Chief of Staff, also didn't like Rumsfeld. He and other Bush staffers and cabinet members urged Bush to dump Rumsfeld 2 years ago, at the beginning of Bush's second term.

These people - generals and colonels, high level staff, Republican leaders, and Republican voters - are far more responsible for the ouster of Rumsfeld than complaining liberals.

Rumsfled was the leader of a failed mess. Even republicans were calling for his resignation. The army newspapers were calling for his resignation. It was a mistake for Bush not to accept his resignation the first two times Rumsfeld tried to give it.

Because he had no plan for what to after we took the country, thousands of Americans have died and tens of thousands have been wounded.

We should feel good for him because he visited a veterans hospital? That guy should spend the rest of his life in hospital begging forgiveness from the kids whose lives he has ruined. From the families who have lost fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. Those lives were lost in vain. And its disgusting.

Next time we invade a sovereign nation I sure hope we do a little research before hand. Like to find out that there are Sunnis and Shiites. Like that they hate each other. Like that you have to pre-empt a mess like that.

You have to admire that the man served his country. But he deserves every ounce of criticism he got and will continue to get. And history will judge him.

As a veteran of 21 years of military service, I have to say that Donald Rumsfeld was one of the WORST Secretaries of Defense in modern times. He did a decent job of building up the military his first tour in the Ford administration -- and we needed it then. But what he did this go-around is incompetent at best, and criminally negligent at worst.

Sure, he is intelligent. But you do NOT run the DoD like a corporation. Going "lean and mean" in Corporate America is one thing. Cutting some waste at the Pentagon level has value, but slashing the troop levels as he has is unconscionable, especially in wartime. Sending troops off to war with less than minimal protective equipment is CRIMINAL! And sending half the troops necessary to accomplish a task is just plain STUPID!

If you don't believe me, look back to his comments in the first days of the Iraq invasion where he claimed that he didn't know exactly how long it would take but that we'd certainly be out of there in less than 6 months! What a MORON! That thinking might have worked at G D Searle, but was totally out of place in our military!

Sorry, Chief, but this old "Top Kick" has to disagree with you.

I bear in techniques that. on the time BBC Radio 4 did a Donald Rumsfeld Soundbite of the Week, with it is very own catchy jingle. The 'wide-unfold unknowns' one replaced right into a classic. If basically he were talking approximately God, it would have made extra experience. a real agnostic would admit the possibility of unknown unknowns as properly. The issues we don't additionally be attentive to that we don't be attentive to approximately God. and that's the way it is.

What is it going to take for you people to understand that a verbal attack on Rumsfeld/Bush IS NOT a verbal attack on the US Armed Forces?!
Jeez! Wake up and come to that realization...please!!!
Rumsfeld and his wife visit the troops in the hospital...unannounced!So what?! Whopee!!!
Rumsfeld is the same man who uses a rubber stamp to affix his signature to the 'your son/daughter died in combat' letters.
Rumsfeld is the same man who refused to listen to the US generals explain how the war should be fought.
Rumsfeld is the same man who concocted the 'weapons-of-mass-destruction-in-Iraq' lie in the first place!
AND you want to elect him to sainthood because he and his wife visit the troops unannounced!
Hell...he should!
In fact, I wish there were a law to make him and his wife visit the ALL troops for the remainder of his days on earth!
That would be the very least he could do for those who put their lives on the line behind his lies and the lies of the Bush-administration!

Because the war in Iraq has been a dismal failure ever since they declared "mission accomplished." They went in expecting to fight Saddam's troops and win easily, but never, even now, set up a coherent plan to deal with the un-uniformed militants plaguing the country.

Also, he would not work with the military commanders, you know, the ones who actually have combat experience, and follow their advice, even as his decisions failed. A leader who doesn't have the support of the troops isn't a leader at all, even if his ideas are good, much less terrible.

I don't hate him, but I feel he is inept. He was Secretary of Defense and he did not defend the country when we were attacked. In effect he then became Sec of Offense and failed miserbly at that also. He lied, He destroyed those who even disagreed with him, and he was downright nasty to other world leaders.

Compare Rumsfeld with John Kerry and his comments. Then look at how many Democrats backed up Kerry, alot of them. Then look at how they treat Rumsfeld. Sickening

Do you really expect sincere intelligent debate from people oozing pathological hatred? It they were capable of intelligent debate or were sincere, they wouldn't rant against Rumsfeld or any other member of the administration.
