Psychiatry is a branch of medicine, which concentrate on what therapies, both of the medicinal and the talking varieties, are effective in treating mental disorders. A psychiatrist can provide therapy and can also proscribe medications.

Psychology is a branch of social science. It is primarily interested in the study of the human mind and human behavior. What makes psychology unique among the sciences of the brain and the mind is that psychologists are the ones who develop, administer and score psychological tests (like the WAIS and the MMPI). Psychologists can also do therapy, or perform experiments, but they can not proscribe medication.

the psychologist is a person who has the title doctor . as does the psychiatrist . the psychiatrist is a medial doctor he she knows all about drugs and everything else a basic doctor knows. he she then went on to take more training in psychiatrist . both doctors
are aware of a kind of treatment that Freud created and which others have used in that its talking and listening but the psychologist is more likely to use that method of treatment along with some other types of treatments he the physiologist does not and is not allowed to give medications . but he can send the person to a psychiatrist to have him see if he wants to give meds. the two types of doctors are not at odds with each other.
the rate of success in the treatment of uni polar depression is the same for both types of doctors. there is reason to believe that
each is good and works well however there are cases such as
schizophrenia that the psychologist would have to have the help of the medical doctor

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, usually holding an MD in addition to other credentials. They can prescribe medications. Psychologists usually hold a Master's degree, but most often a Ph.D. or a Psy.D. They are not medical doctors and cannot prescribe medications. They can diagnose mental illnesses, however, just like a psychiatrist can.
