You ask someone what music they like & they say "I like all music"?
I think it's such a cop-out answer.
Next time I hear that, I'll say- "Wow! Does that include Gregorian chants & Indonesian folk sings in your collection?"
NO one likes "All" music....

It really has come to the point today where in order to get a real answer, you have to make the question Very specific.
I guess since music is SO much more available today (the Net, stores, etc) people *would* tend to give the cop out reply....

Finally! Someone who thinks the same as I do. It aggrevates the crap out of me when people say that. If we ask you what kind of music you like, dont say all kinds. Thats not even possible. You cant know all types of music in the world. And much less like them. Even when people tell you what kinds they like it would be better if they gave an example.
EX: "what kind of music do you like?"
"I like rock. Bands such as afi and system of a down. they're my fav."
"That's cool."
Thats how I wish people would answer to that question.

YES, that is very irritating. For me, I can't get into country music at all and the hardcore rap, just not my cup of tea. I enjoy various genres, like the goth, new wave, and good old rock and roll.
You know what else is irritating for me? Stating an opinion on yahoo answers for music that influences you personally and then have someone give you a thumbs down; somehow I find that insulting. I know we all have differences as to what makes music great and personal hindset, so go figure that one out. Have a good evening!; good question.

Just depends what you consider music--personally I think 'rap music' is an oxymoron. Music from all genres interests me, from Gregorian chants, pan flute, medieval, rock, hip hop, reggae, country, classical, new age and disco to folk music. Not included are death metal, speed metal, and gangsta rap.

It's definitely the laziest way to answer the question, but I think it is somewhat defendable. Some people really do like many of today's genres of music, but obviously no one likes everything. However, I would still be irritated as well if someone told me that.
If someone answers the question that way, try a follow-up question of "What is your favorite genre of them all?" or maybe "Who do you consider your favorite band(s)?"

Yeah, i totally hate it when people say that! I like only a couple genres of music and they are all about the same sounding. i think they just say that for... an answer, i guess.

it sort of a cop out and it's false. My sister used to say she liked all music but wouldn't listen to rap or country. now she listens to rap but swears country is stupid and boring, even though she's admitted a couple times to liking some of the songs she's heard me listen to.
yeah, I don't think anybody likes "all" music.

Yes, Its a cop-out answer. Obviously nobody likes all music.
But why does it matter?
people judge harshly on musical taste. i can understand not wanting to be pegged as a certain kind of person.
